What is design..?

I think that design is about attracting attention... If an object or a space can surprise you, make you laugh, make you wonder or satisfy you by its beauty, function, simplicity or shape... then it's well designed...

Peter van de Merwe

Born in Papendrecht, The Netherlands in 1988. I started my education of Interior Advisor at DaVinci in Dordrecht (2004-2007). I started working at Gort Modern Wonen (store for Design and Interior Advise) in 2005 and I still work there. After graduating at my Interior Advisor study I joined the Willem De Kooning Academy in Rotterdam for the bachelor study of Interior Architecture (2007 - and hope to graduate in July 2011). During this study I worked on a twelve days workshop at the SICIW (Shanghai International Creative Industry Week). We had to design a new town centre for the villagers of Xian Xiao. At the Saloni Del Mobile, Milan in 2010 ceramic factory Royal Goedwaagen represented the prototypes of my "Leather and Jeans Ceramics".

Internship at LervikDesign, Stockholm, Sweden
In the last year of my study of Interior Architecture I am working at LervikDesign in Stockholm. I will be working there on both interior and product design projects. This internship will take five and a half months of my fourth year at the Willem De Kooning Academy.

Saloni Del Mobile, Milan Design Fair for Royal Goedewaagen.
After a very inspiring project with The Netherlands' oldest ceramic factory "Royal Goedewaagen" this company chose my "Leather and Jeans Ceramics" to present at the Saloni Del Mobile in Milan. The prototypes of my ceramics were part of their exposition.

November, 2009
SICIW 2009 (Shanghai International Creative Industry Week), at DDFA (Dutch Design Fashion and Architecture).
During the SICIW I worked on the exchange workshop for the DDFA in the Dutch pavilion. We worked on a project for a small village Xian Xiao (in the Shanghai area). We designed a new town center for the villagers. We worked in Shanghai for twelve days and presented our plan to the mayor and representatives of the City Council of Shanghai.

Bachelor study, Interior Architecture, Willem De Kooning Academy, Rotterdam
The study is focused on both interior design and product design. This comprises the strong conceptual value, the technical quality and the beauty of the visual appearance of today's design.

Gort Modern Wonen
Design store Gort Modern Wonen is the place where I experienced how to make a matching design plan for the homes of the customers, how to talk about the product that we sell and how to convince the customer that this plan can create a better living.
